Our blog

It was the morning after what had been a very hot night. Temperatures where already 15c at 6am. It was a struggle to sleep but we still got up for a good time. The morning sounds of Swifts were heard right outside our window, screeching as they went past communicating in there own special way. The sounds of the Blackbird calls and at this time of the year their fledglings have already fled the nest. Juveniles are slowly developing into young adults. What’s that I hear? Goldfinches chattering away in their large groups. When I first saw Goldfinches in my garden which was only couple of years ago there was only 2. I made sure they had food and they returned, this time with a large family. You can certainly hear them all together communicating to each other from roof tops a few houses away. I love this sound it makes me so happy.

I get up after having a nice cup of coffee in bed that my devoted husband had made me before he left for work. He always starts work before me. Once I’ve got myself sorted, workout, breakfast and ready for work i often go out side to my bird feeders and check they have enough food and water for the day. Somedays i will see our little local Robin back and forth with juicy worms. It often goes in to the buddleia tree. I often think of my mum when I see Mr. Robin. The garden is in full bloom with sounds of bees busy in the flowers and fluttering of butterflies close by. We also see Damselflies around too with living fairly close to the river. Some mornings if weather is poor I will just watch from my conservatory. From black headed gulls circling around, pigeons roosting, Blue tits singing away at the top of my pear tree, Sparrows making a mess of my pansies in pots. There is always something to watch. It’s about sitting back and taking the time out and breath. It certainly helps me…

One afternoon back in June I had a job to do inside my conservatory I had looked up to talk to my husband and noticed out of the corner of my eye a big bird hovering over the garden. “Andy?!!! Get your camera out? We have a RED KITE over head” In all my 17 years living at my house I’ve never seen a red kite. It was very exciting to see one hovering over the gardens Andy got some incredible shots, he’s the one with better camera of the 2 we have. Was also nice to see the Red kite looking down at us as it knew we were watching him/her looking for food, an absolutely wonderful find for the day.

So I’m out the door to start work I enjoy my work as we drive for a living. We travel all over from Town Centre to country side sometimes even out of Lincolnshire. I love to see wildlife when we reach the countryside you just never know what you may find. Often see Buzzards and Red kites riding on the thermals looking for their next prey. Skylarks in the fields finding food. Often see and hear sounds of Blue tits, Great tits in the bushes foraging for berries and Sparrows chattering away in nearby hedgerows. We don’t just see beautiful wildlife we have seen countryside absolutely destroyed by floods heavy rain hammering down, burst riverbanks, homes full of water and schools being evacuated for safety reasons. This is devasting to see but we have to work around it sometimes and travel further.

On my way home I saw a Buzzard finding shelter in a nearby tree. Plenty of roadkill on the verges, Kestrels hovering and looking gorgeous in the hot sun. Coming the back way in to my own town just south of Lincoln we can see wonderful views of the Lincoln cathedral in the distance. Over the other side of the river I often glance to see what is on the water. I spot a mute Swan gliding on the river. I love to see Swans swim especially when they have their wings shaped like a heart, Just beautiful.

As I approach the last set of traffic lights I hear the sounds of swifts flying overheard and Blackbirds chasing each other. Over the park and bandstand a flock of Pigeons fly over. Why do we have so many Pigeons?? Who knows we just seem to have hundreds in Hykeham alone. I’m nearly home and dinner is calling. My days can certainly be long and busy however at the weekends my husband and I go out with our cameras and take photos of our local wildlife here in Lincoln. We do venture out of Lincolnshire, we recently went to see Gannets and other seabirds at Bempton cliffs. Puffins are popular there but to get a good view of them you have to be up early. Or when they return home from being out at sea all day. Our adventure continues and depending on the weather we are out most weekends and often in the evenings. Depending where we go on our holidays we look for the nearest RSPB sites or/any Bird of prey shows. Not to mention beautiful scenery I love capturing sunsets and the dramatic clouds especially by the sea.

Studying birds helps me to unwind and relax, it takes the daily stress away. Sink into bird books and I have to mention I have a certificate from FSC (Field studies council) I studied about history of garden birds and their song call. It was an achievement like no other. We love walking taking photos and enjoying the sound of nature. I chose to start my own blog as it’s part of my hobby and love sharing our stories and photographs. Join us on our adventurous journey through wildlife from local parks to trips around the UK. You can also view our Gallery we will update this regularly. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram where you will see every weekend there is something new… ENJOY
